St. Joseph’s secure semi-final place in comprehensive
win over Spiorad Naomh
St. Joseph’s 7-7
Spiorad Naomh 4-8
St. Joseph’s had an explosive start scoring 2 goals and 4 points unanswered in the first 10 minutes, giving St. Joseph’s a decisive early lead. While Spiorad Naomh battled hard they were overwhelmed by St. Joseph’s attack. They did however have some goal opportunities which forced our goalie to produce some superb saves. The score at the interval was 4-6 to 1-4 in favour of the Mardyke boys. The home side made some practical changes at the break as players were exhausted from their efforts in the first half.
Spiorad Naomh raised their game by scoring three goals early in the second half and before long there was just 5 points between the teams. Influential substitutions were made and they reinvigorated the team, with three of them scoring quality goals. The away team continued to drive hard, determined not to let the game slip away easily. Joseph’s gutsy, gallant, heroic backs and the wonderful encouragement from supporters ensured the home team were victorious in the end.
Twenty-nine St. Joseph’s boys contributed to the emphatic win, chiseling out some great memories and creating the chance for another great day out! Spiorad Naomh were warriors but were defeated by a better team on the day.
