Lord Mayor and Mayoress Visit St. Joseph’s N.S.

The Lord Mayor, Chris O’ Leary and the  Mayoress visited the school this morning in glorious sunshine. As they entered the school they were greeted by the unique sound of the Bodhran Bookills, who formed a guard of honour for them in the yard. They were highly impressed by the boys playing skills, and the warm welcome given to them by the staff and the boys.

During his speech The Lord Mayor highlighted the importance of friendship. He also invited to the boys to participate in a unique project called ‘1916-The Legacy-Our Stories’. As we commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising, pupils are being asked to trace their own family histories over the past one hundred years. He stressed that every boy from all nationalities should participate in this event and start gathering information by chatting to grannies, granddads  and other family. The closing date for this is the 20th of November 2015.

To end the visit the Lord Mayor mingled with the boys and of course gave homework off for everyone!
