Today was a very special day here at St. Joseph’s. We had two important visitors from the Army – Lieutenant Sheehan and Gunner Coffey. They were here to deliver a new Irish flag to commemorate the upcoming 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising. We will raise the tri colour on March 15th at 12pm.
Two of our pupils from sixth class read the historic Proclamation and two other boys received the flag on behalf of the school community. We then had the opportunity to ask Lieutenant Sheehan some questions so boys from Junior Infants to sixth class formed an orderly line. The soldiers were very impressed with the enquiries and the level of interest shown by the boys.
We sang Amhrán na bhFiann as the flag was being presented.
