This week Mr. Kelly and second class investigated how to make fizzy rockets. We gathered up a variety of empty water bottles, vitamin C tablets and Alka Seltzar tablets. We measured out 1m segments so that we could measure where the rocket would land.We learned that the outside of the circle is a circumference. Also, if you turn around in one full circle that is 360 degress, or a full rotation.

Initially we put a vitamin C tablet in a glass of water. We noticed that there was a chemical reaction and that a gas was created. The gas was called Carbon Dioxide. The same chemical reaction was present when we put in the Alka Seltzar tablet in a glass of water. We then began our investigation.

Test 1. One Alka Seltzar Tablet, put in a bottle which was half filled with water. We then shook the bottle and waited. The water fizzed in the bottle, but there was no explosion!

Test 2. Two Alka Seltzar Tablets, put in a bottle which was half filled with water. We then shook the bottle and waited. The water fizzed in the bottle, but there was no explosion!

Test 3. Three Alka Seltzar Tablets, put in a bottle which was half filled with water. We then shook the bottle and waited. The water fizzed in the bottle, but there was no explosion!

We then changed the temperature of the water. We used warm water instead of cold water.

Test 1. One Alka Seltzar Tablet, put in a bottle which was half filled with warm water. We then shook the bottle and waited. The water fizzed in the bottle, but there was no explosion!

Test 2. TwoAlka Seltzar Tablet, put in a bottle which was half filled with warm water. We then shook the bottle and waited. The water fizzed in the bottle, and finally there was an explosion!

We are going to test out the following the next day:
1) Used vitamin C tablets.

2) Use different types of bottles.

3) Use more or less water.

4) Mr. Donovan is also going to show us his Air Pressure Rocket which he did in October with 6th Class.
